About us

How FoilPress Started in Johannesburg

FoilPress was founded in 2009 in Industria West, Johannesburg, where a lot of South Africa’s print and packaging work gets planned, repaired and pushed out on tight deadlines. The business began with a simple idea: if a company is going to stamp foil on cards, sleeves, cartons or labels, the press must hold temperature, pressure and registration properly every time. That is still the way we work today.

We serve small craft makers, growing print shops and larger manufacturers that need repeatable results on long production runs. Some clients come to us needing one press and a short operator handover. Others need a full setup with heater calibration, die mounting, foil matching and production optimisation. In every case, the aim is the same: equipment that works hard in local conditions, from dry inland winters to humid coastal orders sent out to Durban, Gqeberha and Cape Town.

We keep our base in Johannesburg because it puts us close to the industrial areas where many of our customers operate, including Roodepoort, Randburg, Midrand, Sandton and Germiston. That also helps when a machine is down and time matters. A missed shift can mean late deliveries, wasted substrate and extra labour, so fast, practical support is part of our service and not an add-on.

What We Stand For On Every Job

FoilPress is built around careful workmanship, honest advice and proper after-sales support. We do not believe in selling a press and disappearing once payment is made. Customers need training, setup checks, spare parts and someone who understands the pressure of production schedules. That is why our team stays involved from first enquiry through installation and ongoing servicing.

Our work is shaped by a few simple values:

  • Practical advice based on the job, not guesswork
  • Consistent machine setup for reliable foil transfer
  • Clear communication on lead times, servicing and spares
  • Respect for your production floor, your staff and your deadlines
  • Support that matches the realities of load-shedding, power dips and busy shifts

We know South African businesses often have to do more with less. A press may need to run through power interruptions, varied paper stocks and changing order sizes in the same week. Our approach is to help customers get stable output with the equipment they already have, or with a new press that is correctly sized for their work. That means fewer stoppages, less wastage and a better finish on the final product.

The Team Behind the Workshop and Support Counter

FoilPress is run by people who understand both the technical side and the customer side of the business. Sibusiso Mthembu leads the company as Managing Director and keeps the focus on dependable service and long-term client relationships. Anika van der Merwe handles sales and helps customers compare options based on production needs, not just machine size on paper.

Our technical side is led by Kagiso Molefe, who oversees machine setup, troubleshooting and servicing. Willem Coetzee supervises the workshop, where repairs, checks and adjustments are handled with care. Lerato Ndlovu manages client support and keeps customers informed on bookings, follow-ups and service timing, while Nokuthula Dlamini coordinates operations so deliveries, visits and parts requests stay organised.

Together, the team gives customers one point of contact with real industry knowledge behind it. If a client needs help with a press installation in Industria West, a training visit in Roodepoort, or a breakdown repair in Midrand, we know how to line up the right person, the right part and the right plan. That saves time and reduces the back and forth that can slow production.

How We Help Card and Packaging Businesses Work Better

Hot-foil stamping is detail work. Temperature that is too low gives weak transfer, while too much pressure can damage stock or shorten the life of the die. Foil that is not matched correctly can waste material and leave patchy results. We help customers balance those variables so the press performs the way it should on the actual material they use.

Our services cover the full practical side of ownership and production:

  • Press installation and site setup
  • Operator training for day-to-day use
  • Preventive servicing to reduce breakdowns
  • Breakdown repairs when production stops
  • Heater calibration and pressure setup
  • Die mounting and foil matching
  • Spares supply for ongoing use
  • Production optimisation for better output and less waste

This support matters whether the job is fine card work, short-run packaging or higher-volume runs for brand owners and converters. Many South African plants also work in spaces where temperature, dust and power quality vary from month to month. We factor that in when we recommend settings, service intervals and replacement parts, so the machine holds up in actual use not just in ideal conditions.

Service Across City West and Beyond

Our base in Industria West places us in the heart of Johannesburg’s City West industrial area, but our reach extends far beyond one suburb. We regularly assist customers in Roodepoort, Randburg, Midrand, Sandton and Germiston, and we supply presses and foils nationwide. For businesses that operate from one site in Gauteng or run more than one production line, that wider coverage makes planning easier.

Being local helps with response times, especially when a customer is under pressure from an urgent print run or a packaging deadline. It also helps us give grounded advice. We know how municipal compliance, workshop space, labour planning and utility issues affect production in and around Johannesburg. If a site has limited power backup, for example, we can talk through the best way to manage heat-up times and running schedules. If a customer is near the coast, we can advise on storage and maintenance where humidity affects foil handling and equipment condition.

For many clients, service is not just about repairs. It is about having a supplier who understands the job, can speak clearly about options and does not oversell what is not needed. That is what FoilPress aims to be: steady, knowledgeable and close enough to help when it matters.

Why Businesses Keep Coming Back to FoilPress

Customers return to us because they want dependable presses, proper support and straightforward communication. They also want equipment that suits the scale of their business. A small craft operation does not need the same setup as a busy packaging plant, and we take time to match the machine to the work rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all answer.

In many cases, long-term value comes from the small things done well. A press that has been installed properly, serviced on time and trained into the hands of the operator will usually give better results and fewer interruptions. Good foil work is not only about the finish you see on the sample card. It is also about stable output, lower waste and a cleaner production line over months and years.

That is what FoilPress brings to the table. We are here for the first enquiry, the first setup, the first repair and the next order after that. If your business needs a reliable foil stamping partner in Johannesburg or anywhere in South Africa, we are ready to help.
